Freedom. Empowerment. Responsibility.

Pathfinder Community School will be an alternative private school for ages 5 to 18  where students can find and follow their passions in a supportive community environment.

We support self-directed education, and are akin to Sudbury Valley School, The Circle School, and dozens of other democratic schools worldwide.

We will serve the Raleigh/Durham area of North Carolina starting in Fall 2018.

What makes our school unique?

Time to Play, Time to Learn

Students have abundant time to explore the world and follow their interests.

Age Mixing

Students have the freedom to associate with people of all ages.

 Democratic process

Students and staff have a voice in the School Meeting, the school's legal governing body.

Community Accountability

Students and staff are equally accountable to the Judicial Committee for upholding the school's laws.

All Pursuits are Equal

There are no tests, grades, or required curricula. Classes are held at student request only.

School Philosophy

We believe that people learn best when motivated by their own interest. Left to their own devices, students will inevitably explore the world, create, and follow their curiosity wherever it leads.
